Gilded Masklin (Ziritus dramaticus)

    Masklin are ghostlike beings that inhabit the elder areas of Terrania, those that most embody the Spirit element. While their connection to this element may seem simple, Spirits are Ghosts after all, the Spirit element is one more relating to the Soul that all living beings have, mortal or paranatural. As such, Masklin and related species are believed to be incredibly modern life-forms in the greater evolutionary tree, a novel creature that forgoes the physical body entirely and instead exists purely as their innermost selves. Their biology is largely incompatible with other species, but sometimes surprises may still happen.

    Current studies suggest that Masklin are closest related to certain aquatic species, and on some level share a common ancestor with Slam-manders. It is believed that, when traveling onto land, these ancestors adapted armored facial plating and crystallized bones that - when a mutation caused their delicate, translucent skin to be replaced with ghoulish "ectoplasm" - simplified into their modern formations. This means that their “cores” are actually highly-specialized crystalline bone structures imbued with their most precious of spiritual life-force.
