World of Terrania - On Viloism, the faith of the Zelenic

Viloism

The predominant religion of most prevailing Zelenic cultures, with roots dating back to a time when the forces of nature were directly controlled by titanic offspring of the primary elements. High-ranking shaman figures, known as Makulei, are designated as protectors of Terrania's biodiversity, the old gods' creation, and are revered by followers of the faith as people who perform an essential function to the greater organism that is nature itself.

Viloist Makulei forego their given name to show dedication to their cause, simply choosing to go by their title when referred to. Makulei are seen as something of a "third gender" as well, being referred to most commonly with distinct pronouns when applicable. (Zey/Zem/Zeirs in English)

Viloists are often practitioners of alchemy due to its use of natural waste, and such magics are seen as just a part of how the forest processes its excess. Natural matter is converted into magical essences by Zela (zelenic people), and said magical essences are in turn used to bolster nature. This can also bleed into their cooking, where food is given magical healing properties by the alchemically-enhanced plants they use for ingredients.
